Depression, infidelity, substance abuse, sexual trauma, divorce, parenting issues, anxiety or just a general desire to feel better are all problems that might bring us to therapy. When meeting with couples or individuals, I work to understand the unique ways in which the problem(s) you've come to therapy for affect you. Together, we will discover the path to healing that is right for you. I incorporate mindfulness, solution-focused therapy and narrative therapy techniques with a strengths-based, collaborative, and creative way of working with people.
My areas of experience and interest are in working with individuals and couples on the effects of sexual assault, infidelity, addictions, parenting difficulties, and elderly and aging issues. I am committed to creating a safe and affirming environment for all individuals and relationships.
I hold a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University of MN and am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy pursuing full licensure. I have completed the level one clinical training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, sexual assault advocacy training through the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and continue to pursue advanced training in narrative therapy and mindfulness techniques.
When I'm not working as a therapist, I am working at living my own best life. Things that help me do this are reading, writing, yoga, playing with my four young kids, laughing with my friends, walking my dog and relaxing with my husband.
Whether you wish to focus on depression and anxiety, communication issues, family conflict, relationships, becoming a better parent, or your gender identity, we will work together to build an effective and authentic therapeutic relationship. I often tell my clients that this is your therapy and your experience so please let me know how I can best assist you on your journey. I focus on the strengths of my clients and tailor my approach to each client's needs. We will work together openly, respectfully, and honestly in order for you to reach your therapeutic goals.
I enjoy working with couples, teenagers, young adults, and families on parenting, identity and existential issues, divorce, sexuality and LGBTQ-related concerns, sexual issues and gender identity. I generally use experiential therapy, multicultural models, and an attachment-based framework to conceptualize relationships and behavior.
