Kori Hennessy, MA, LAMFT
Specializing in couples therapy, sex therapy and trauma
I am a trauma, sex and relationship therapist who is passionate about supporting people as they create the lives and relationships they want. When meeting with couples or individuals, I work to understand the unique ways in which the problem(s) you've come to therapy for affect you. I believe that every individual and relationship has unique strengths which they can draw upon to support the changes they are hoping to make.
My areas of experience and interest are in working with individuals and couples on the effects of sexual assault, infidelity, addictions, parenting difficulties, sexual concerns, and communication issues. I am committed to creating a safe and affirming environment for all individuals and relationships. I am LGBTQI+ affirming and poly friendly.
I hold a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University of MN and am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with the MN Board of Marriage and Family Therapy pursuing full licensure. I am trained in EMDR therapy, have completed the level one clinical training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, sexual assault advocacy training through the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, an externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy and am trained in ACT therapy. I continue to pursue advanced training in sex therapy, narrative therapy, trauma informed therapy methods and mindfulness techniques.
When I'm not working as a therapist, I am working at living my own best life. Things that help me do this are reading, writing, yoga, playing with my four young kids, laughing with my friends, walking my dog and relaxing with my husband.
Specializing in couples therapy, LGBTQ identities, young adults
Perhaps you're feeling disconnected in your relationship, you're not quite sure about your gender or what your options are for transitioning, or you're just beginning your life as an adult and you're feeling lost and uncertain. If any of that feels familiar to you, I can help. In our work together, you will feel understood and safe with me, and therapy will help you create the life, relationship, and identity you most long for.
I work with couples, young adults, and families on relationship issues, life transitions, depression and anxiety, sexuality, and gender identity (transgender, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, agender, nonbinary, etc). I have a special interest in working with queer couples, and couples in which one or both partners identifies as transgender or gender-nonconforming. I use Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), multicultural models, and an attachment-based framework to conceptualize relationships and behavior.
I have a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and am a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT). I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, and completed level one clinical training in the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy.
In my free time, I enjoy going for walks, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I live with my husband, son, and our dog in Minneapolis.
